Blog Action Day

I'm sitting here in Austria, Europe. A few days ago I founded this blog. My first blog. I heard of the "Blog Action Day", but I didn't realise, what it was about. Today, I fell over the blog of an Austrian politician, Hannes Swoboda. He is a member of the social democratic party. Though I'm not very into this party, i read a little bit and saw his ad for this "Blog Action Day". So I joined it. Because I really care for the environment.

One example: A few months ago I switched to another electricity supplier. A supplier that only delivers "eco-power". It is made by wind, water, sun or eco-gas.

I hate when politicians say, that nuclear power is "clean" and CO2-neutral. Yes, it is CO2 neutral, but it is DANGEROUS! And it's NOT clean. And it is NOT as cheap as it is sold.
High security costs very much. The construction of the power plants cost very much. And the long-term management of the nuclear waste also costs very much.

But why is it supplied that cheap? Because it is subsidized. Because they get cheap loans from the government. How are subsidies financed? Over taxes. Who pays taxes? The citizens. So, in the end, you pay for everything. But you don't see it on your electricity bill.

Why is it not clean? Because there is NO final dump for nuclear waste on the whole world. There are only "interim storages". Because no country wants a nuclear waste dump. Because a nuclear waste dump would cost very much. Because the nuclear waste will atomically radiate for decades and decades. And if the waste is dumped deep in the earth.... I don't want to live in this area, when there would be an earthquake... This waste will radiate. It will radiate us and our children.

BUT: There will NOT be nuclear power till eternity. Because uranium (that is needed for nuclear power production) is not "renewable". It will last for about 40 or 60 years. That is approximately as long as oil and petroleum gas will last.
High security costs very much. But it will NOT prevent ALL accidents. Because we're humans. Humans are fallible.

Don't buy nuclear power.
